Registering an imported motorcycle in Spain

Your motorcycle already has foreign plates and your registered address is anywhere between Castellón and Murcia. We coordinate the whole case: IEDMT, homologation when the motorcycle needs it, the ITV inspection and the DGT paperwork, through to Spanish plates.

Motorcycle vs car

What's different for a motorcycle

The path is the same four stops as for a car — registry of the country of origin, AEAT for the IEDMT, an ITV station, the DGT — but a motorcycle — or a scooter, which takes exactly the same route — forks earlier. One with a European COC takes the short route: pay the IEDMT and pass a first ITV. One from outside the EU has no European homologation at all, so it needs an individual homologation through an accredited laboratory before it can reach the ITV station. A good share of the Japanese and American motorcycles brought in privately never had a COC to begin with, and classic or custom builds usually need a more involved homologation dossier than a standard production bike. Since 2026 the ITV card for motorcycles is issued electronically (Orden PJC/528/2026).

We coordinate the file end to end: we check your documents, book the ITV appointment at the station that suits the motorcycle's location, coordinate the homologation with an accredited laboratory when it's needed, and coordinate the filing with the DGT. You get the motorcycle back on Spanish plates: €900 + VAT for our service, official taxes passed through at cost.

Where it is filed

The file goes to the traffic office of your province

Registration is handled by the Jefatura Provincial de Tráfico that matches the owner's registered address, wherever in Comunidad Valenciana or Región de Murcia that is — regardless of where the motorcycle is parked. Appointments are booked through 060, the miDGT app or the DGT electronic office.

What we do

Check your paperwork before anything starts, book the ITV slot, coordinate individual homologation with an accredited laboratory when the motorcycle needs it, pay the fees and coordinate the filing.

What we are not

We are not an ITV station and not an accredited homologation laboratory. The station carries out the inspection, the laboratory certifies the homologation, the DGT issues the plates — we coordinate the file and keep you informed at every step.

What you pay separately

The DGT fee, IEDMT and the town hall's IVTM are official taxes, passed on at cost. Any third-party homologation fee is set and billed by the laboratory, not by us.

How registration works

The four stops every import goes through

Every imported motorcycle follows the same route: the registry of the country of origin, AEAT for the IEDMT registration tax, an ITV station for the technical inspection, and the DGT for the plates and permit. A motorcycle from an EU country with its own European COC takes the short version — pay the IEDMT and pass a first ITV. A motorcycle from outside the EU has no European homologation, so an accredited laboratory has to certify an individual homologation before the ITV station can inspect it.

We don't quote an IEDMT figure upfront: it's calculated on CO₂ emissions, so the exact amount depends on your specific motorcycle and only firms up once we have the technical sheet. What is fixed from the start is our own fee.

Service area

We work across Comunidad Valenciana and Región de Murcia

Our zone runs from Castellón down to Murcia: the provinces of Castellón, Valencia and Alicante, plus the Región de Murcia.

If your motorcycle or your padrón is anywhere in that zone, write to us — registration does not depend on the exact town, and we can move the motorcycle ourselves if needed.

Tell us what the motorcycle is and where it came from

With the ficha técnica or COC (if it has one) and the foreign registration document, we can scope the full cost before anything starts. IEDMT is always a preliminary estimate until it is confirmed against the final technical sheet — and if there is no COC, homologation has to be settled first.

Classic & custom

A UK motorcycle after Brexit

Since Brexit a British motorcycle is no longer an intra-EU import: it clears customs first and only then joins the same four stops. The V5C in your name is the document the rest of the file hangs on. Our fee does not change for a British bike — customs is extra paperwork, not an extra tier of service. Bringing a car over as well? How a UK car is registered in Spain.

Classic or custom motorcycle? Expect a longer process

A classic import or a custom build rarely has a clean COC or a factory homologation to point to, so the individual homologation dossier is more involved than for a standard production motorcycle. We don't quote a price or a timeline for that part — the accredited laboratory sets both once it has seen the motorcycle.
