How long you actually have
These are the legal limits, not our terms. They decide whether your car is a formality or a fine.
If you are registered here (empadronado, NIE, or a permanent establishment), you have 30 days from when the car starts being used in Spain to register it. The clock does not wait for paperwork to arrive.
Without Spanish residency you may drive foreign plates for up to 183 days in any 12-month period. Become a resident and the 30-day rule takes over.
Driving on foreign plates after the limit is a serious offence under the Ley de Tráfico (art. 65.5.k): fines commonly 500–1,500 € and up to 3,000 €, and officers may immobilise the car on the spot.
If the registration cannot be finished inside the 30 days, the DGT issues temporary green plates valid for 60 days and renewable — that keeps the car legal while the file is being processed.
Registering an imported car in Spain is five linked procedures, all in Spanish, and one mistake sends you back to the start.

IEDMT depends on the car's CO₂ and value: we give you an estimate before we start and the final figure once the ficha técnica confirms it. Our price does not change.

A fixed price: €900 + VAT for our work, whatever the file throws at us. Official taxes are passed on to you at cost, with no markup. If the car needs a repair to pass the import ITV, we tell you first and arrange the workshop — that cost is yours, our price does not go up.

Which documents do you need?
The foreign registration document, the car's ficha técnica or COC, the purchase invoice or contract, your NIE or DNI and proof of address in Spain. We check everything before we start and tell you what is missing.
How long does registration take?
It depends on the inspection station's schedule, the engineer and the administration. Once the file is complete we give you a realistic timeframe and keep you posted at every step. We don't promise deadlines that aren't ours to control.
Do I have to go anywhere myself?
No. Not to an inspection station, not to an engineer, not to a single public office. We collect the car and the documents and return the car with the plates fitted.
What if the car fails the import ITV?
We tell you what failed and arrange the repair with a workshop we trust. The repair cost is yours; our price stays the same and we take the car through again.
What is homologación and why is it needed?
It is the check that the car meets Spanish technical rules. Where it differs from the Spanish version (lights, emissions, modifications), an engineer issues the paperwork — the ficha técnica reducida — without which the car cannot be registered here. Finding that engineer and getting the document is part of what we do.
What does the price include and what is separate?
€900 + VAT covers all of our work: assessing the case, the import ITV, the technical side and the engineers, the plates, the taxes paid on your behalf and the whole correspondence. Separate: the official taxes themselves (DGT fee, IEDMT and IVTM), passed on at cost, and any workshop repairs.
How is this different from turnkey import?
Here the car is already yours and already in Spain — we only coordinate the registration. With turnkey import we find and buy the car in Germany, bring it over and take the registration on as well.
